Morning after pill: New interactions highlighted

morning-news-headline

The MHRA has published information to raise awareness of several interactions with the morning after pill (containing levonorgestrel), which potentially reduces its efficacy. It seems that women taking treatment for a range of conditions including epilepsy, HIV, tuberculosis or that have taken medicinal products containing St John’s wort, may be at risk of getting pregnant.

The MHRA advises women taking these medications or any herbal remedies, to seek advice from their doctor, nurse or pharmacist.
